Dyson's cordless stick vacuums all share the same basic idea — a lightweight, cord-free body that converts to a handheld — but they differ in suction, run time, bin size, weight and filtration. Matching those specs to your home is the quickest way to find the right model.
Suction and run time
Suction is measured in air watts (AW). Entry models such as the V8 Cyclone sit around 150 AW, while premium models like the V16 Piston Animal reach much higher. Most models offer up to around 60–70 minutes of run time, though this varies with the cleaner head and power mode.
Weight and home size
For apartments and stairs, a lighter machine is easier to handle. For larger homes, the extra suction and run time of a premium model is usually worth the additional weight. Our comparison page lists weight where it has been confirmed.
Pet hair and filtration
Households with pets benefit from an anti-tangle cleaner head, found on models such as the V15 Detect Absolute. If allergies are a concern, the Gen5detect Absolute adds fully sealed HEPA filtration. For a full walkthrough, see our best Dyson vacuum in Australia guide.
